Zoom Webinar
Program Description
In response to over a decade of organizing, the Department of Homeland Security issued a new policy guidance in January 2023 that could benefit tens of thousands of immigrant workers. Labor-based deferred action allows immigrant workers involved in a labor dispute to seek deferred action, a temporary protection from deportation that provides access to work authorization. Since too many immigrant workers are subjected to workplace violations and abuses, many immigrants may qualify for labor-based deferred action. However, until practitioners learn about and use this important new temporary protection available to their clients, the policy guidance will not reach its full potential. Practitioners should therefore be aware of this important new temporary protection available to immigrants.
In this webinar, the faculty will discuss eligibility criteria, best practices on screening clients for labor-based deferred action and permanent relief, counseling clients on the risks of submitting an application, navigating tricky eligibility issues, and filing tips. The faculty will also share lessons learned since January 2023 and provide insight into the labor-based deferred action renewal process.
