January NIPNLG Removal Defense Webinar: Ethical Issues in a Time of Uncertainty
Thursday, January 16, 2025 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM (ET) / 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM (PT)
90 minutes of instruction (1.50 CLE ethics credits)
Zoom Webinar
Program Description
As practitioners prepare for a new presidential administration which has promised to carry out mass deportations and impose new restrictions on pathways to relief, practitioners must navigate how and what information to convey to clients. Furthermore, as immigration advocates themselves have increasingly been targeted by anti-immigrant forces within government, it is critical for practitioners to ensure that they are complying with all relevant laws while still meeting their ethical obligations towards clients.
During this webinar, the faculty will discuss:
- Duties of competency when the law is changing rapidly;
- Duties of communication with clients;
- Counseling clients about options without running afoul of laws which criminalize certain forms of assistance to noncitizens;
- Advocating zealously against emboldened adversaries.
