Program Description

Immigration law continues to change on a near-daily basis, with noncitizens facing procedural hurdles and substantive changes to the law. This webinar will focus on affirmative applications and discuss pitfalls that have arisen under this administration and how to avoid them. Specifically, the webinar will cover:

• Increased filing fees and barriers to payment

• TPS terminations and litigation 

• A culture of “no” on common USCIS applications 

• Naturalization - changes to test and good moral character; resumption of community investigations, with implications for VAWA confidentiality

• Changes to asylum law 

• EAD issues

• Humanitarian parole mostly eliminated

• Current state of DACA and deferred action

• USCIS NTA policy for applicants/beneficiaries without lawful status

• ICE arrests at USCIS interviews

• Potential impact of civil fines on discretionary applications
