Program Description

Immigrant defenders rarely cross-examine DHS witnesses, but when DHS presents witnesses, immigrant defenders must be ready to effectively conduct cross-examination. During this webinar, faculty will discuss common issues that may prompt DHS to present a witness and how immigrant defenders can best exercise the respondent’s statutory right to to cross-examine DHS witnesses. Faculty will also discuss the purpose of cross-examination, proper cross-examination technique, what to avoid during cross-examination, and responding to objections during cross-examination. To illustrate how to effectively cross-examine, the faculty will role play common scenarios.
